Hampton Court Flower Show Success in 2013

Hampton Court Flower Show 2013 proved to be another big success for Landform with in-house designer, Catherine MacDonald, winning Gold & Best in Category for the second year in a row!

Catherine’s exhibit, titled the ‘Desolation to Regeneration’, was inspired by the forthcoming film ‘The Desolation of Smaug’, the second part of ‘The Hobbit’ based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, where the heroes move into a landscape ruined by the wrath & fire of ‘Smaug the Dragon’. The walk-through exhibit portrayed the powerful desolation of fire and ensuing vibrancy of regeneration through the abstract use of plants and sculptural forms.

The desolation of fire was represented by fierce hot-coloured plants, rusted sculptures and molten-red substrates with crackling fire sounds, smoke and smells.Plumes of smoke-grey plants formed a transitional ‘smoke after the fire’ before  the vibrant green planting, charred sculptures and blackened substrates together with bird song and soft light depicted regeneration.

The BBC’s coverage of Hampton Court Flower Show included several programmes and Catherine’s ‘Desolation to Regeneration’ exhibit was featured on two of these programmes. Monty Don was one of the presenters, seen here on the exhibit:

Other gardens built by Landform included Paul Martin’s Vestra Wealth’s Jardin du Gourmet which won Silver Gilt, the ‘Macmillan Legacy Garden’ designed by Rebecca Govier which was awarded a Silver medal and ‘The One Show Garden’ designed by ‘The One Show’ competition winner by Vicky Stothard.
