Gold winning garden designed by Catherine MacDonald for RHS Hampton Court 2016. The design was also celebrating the 80th anniversary of Squire’s Garden Centres. This is a suburban garden for a couple with grown-up children, who are looking for an elegant yet practical design for their linear, rectangular space. They want the garden to include a relaxing entertaining area, a lush lawn, various species of trees, a water feature running across the garden, and a productive area at the end of the garden for growing fruit and vegetables. The garden as a whole should feel private and enveloping with a modern design scheme. The planting is soft and structural, using a warm summer palette of whites, reds, oranges and yellows – a nod to the colours in the Squire’s logo. Photos by Derek St Romaine.
